MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Swings are now back at a small green space on Milwaukee’s lower east side.
The city took down the swings last fall at a park just under the Marsupial Bridge.
The swings were removed because they fell into disrepair, and were dangerous.
That’s when the grassroots organization “Beintween,” the Brady Street Business Improvement District and the city teamed up to replace them.
“The city is challenging ourselves to have more fun, while at the same time being functional and creating spaces where people can come and enjoy themselves and bring their kids or their grandkids and have a lot of fun,” Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said.
A total of 11 new swings were made from recycled materials including rubber tires, metals and wood.
The cushioned ground beneath the swings was also replaced with shredded rubber tires and new lighting has been installed for a safer experience.
